The Daikin Christchurch Beach 5s Festival makes its debut at the iconic Sumner Beach, marking an exciting new chapter for Beach 5s Rugby New Zealand. Building on the success of Mount Maunganui, this inaugural South Island event expands the growing trans-Tasman Summer of Footy pathway and brings Beach 5s to one of New Zealand’s most spectacular coastal destinations.
Set between the Pacific Ocean and the Port Hills, Sumner Beach offers a unique blend of beach lifestyle, vibrant cafés, coastal walks and stunning scenery. Just minutes from central Christchurch, the festival provides the perfect opportunity for teams, families and supporters to combine a weekend of footy with a South Island getaway.
Drawing participants from across New Zealand and Australia, the Christchurch Beach 5s Festival delivers a high-energy mix of competition, community and summer fun, creating a new home for Beach 5s in the South Island.

Whether you dream about footy and need an offseason hiss, or think a ‘try’ is a word of encouragement, Beach 5s is for you.  There’s up to five players a side on the field with seven reserves and unlimited subbing. All ages are welcome!

Get your teams sorted for a weekend of sport, vibes, and banter, all while exploring Christchurch’s hot-spots next summer.
Team Categories and Entry Fees:
- Open Men Beach 5s & Open Women Beach 5s, Maters (Over 45’s) & Colts (Under 21’s): $400 per team
- Youth Beach 5s (Years 5 and 6 boys, Years 5 and 6 girls, Years 7 and 8 boys, Years 7 and 8 and girls, Years 9 and 10 boys, Years 9 and 10 girls, Years 11, 12 & 13 boys and Years 11, 12 & 13 girls): $280 per team
Winners of Seniors categories receive FREE Team Entry to another Beach 5s events of their choice (Australia).

*Full refunds will be provided should there be any reason that this event may not be able to run, or postponed. The event organisers reserve the right to amalgamate divisions, within safety regulations, due to cancellations or reduced entries in some age divisions.
